Terms and conditions

Last updated: 4 July 2026

These are the agreements between you and Mifolo when you create a personalised children's book with us. We have written them so that you can actually read them: no fine print, just clear agreements.

It is your book

The book you create with us is yours. Reading, downloading, printing, sharing with family and friends, giving it as a gift. All of it is allowed, as often as you like. Only reselling or commercial use is not permitted.

1. Who we are

Mifolo is a platform where you put together a personalised picture book for your child: you tell us about your child and upload photos, and we turn that into a story with illustrations using AI.

[Company details (company name, address, Chamber of Commerce number, VAT number and contact address) will be added before going live.]

2. What you buy from us

You put your book together in the book maker and then see the cover for free. You only pay once you like it. After your payment we create the full eBook of 26 pages, usually within 10 minutes (within an hour at the latest). The eBook costs €6.99; if you then order the hardcover, that amount is credited.

Would you like your book as a hardcover too? It costs €34.98 per copy; your eBook credit of €6.99 is applied once per book. Shipping is €5.49 per order, and free as soon as your order contains two or more copies. We deliver hardcovers to the Netherlands and Spain.

As soon as the book is ready, you can view it via the link we email you. The purchase is concluded at the moment you complete the order and pay.

3. Immediate delivery, and why there is no cooling-off period

Your book is made especially for you and delivered digitally straight away. That is why the statutory right of withdrawal (the 14-day cooling-off period) does not apply here: the law, Article 6:230p of the Dutch Civil Code (Burgerlijk Wetboek), excludes it for digital content that is delivered immediately with your consent, and for products made to your specifications.

This also applies to the printed hardcover: it is printed especially for you (a personalised product) and therefore cannot be returned. If something is wrong due to a mistake on our side, we will of course put it right.

That is why we ask you to tick a box at checkout. By doing so you expressly agree that we start straight away, and you declare that you thereby waive your right of withdrawal. Without that tick we cannot start the order.

More important than the law: you see the cover for free before you pay anything. And if there is something you are not happy with after delivery, get in touch with us. We always take a look together with you.

4. AI creates your book, and sometimes you can tell

The texts and illustrations are created with AI. That makes every book unique, but it also means an illustration may differ from exactly what you had in mind: a hairstyle that falls just a little differently, a colour that varies between pages. Such small variations and imperfections are part of the technology and do not count as a defect.

What we do promise: every illustration goes through our quality control before you see the book. If there is still something that really is not right, let us know, and we will fix it.

You put your book together and check it yourself. In the editor you can review and adjust the text, the spelling, the names and the illustrations. Before we make a printed copy, you approve your book for print. From that moment it is final: we print it exactly as you approved it, and it can no longer be changed. You are responsible for the final result you approve, for example a typo or a name you entered yourself.

5. Your book, your rights

For private use the book is entirely yours: you may read, download, print, read aloud, share with family and friends and give it as a gift without limit.

What is not allowed: reselling the book (or parts of it), distributing it in print runs or otherwise using it commercially. If you have something commercial in mind, just ask us.

The software, storytelling techniques and illustration styles we use to create books remain Mifolo's.

6. Your photos: only upload what is allowed

You are responsible for the photos you upload. Only upload photos of people you are allowed to: of your own children, or of others with their consent. For someone else's children this means the consent of their parent or guardian (portrait rights).

How we handle the photos, including our promise that original photos are deleted as soon as your book is ready, and after 14 days at the latest, and are never used to train AI models, you can read in the privacy statement.

7. Content guidelines

You are making a book for personal use, and that gives you a lot of freedom. Many recognisable, public places and buildings are perfectly fine in your book, as long as no brand or logo is involved. A few things, however, do not belong in a Mifolo book:

  • protected characters, brands or logos of others (so no book “in the style of” a well-known film studio either);
  • hurtful, violent, discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate content in names, wishes or texts;
  • content that infringes the rights of others.

8. If something goes wrong

If something falls outside our content guidelines, we may refuse, adapt or stop a book. Often we can instead suggest an original, permitted variant so you still end up with a lovely book, but that is not a guarantee. If you have already paid and we cannot deliver, we will refund you, except in cases of deliberate misuse.

You yourself warrant that what you ask us to make does not infringe the rights of others (copyright, trademark, personality/portrait rights). If your request nevertheless gives rise to a claim or harm to someone else, you indemnify us against it, including reasonable costs of legal defence.

If something goes wrong on our side, we simply fix it first: regenerate, repair or refund. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the order. That limitation does not apply in cases of intent or deliberate recklessness on our part, and does not affect the rights you always have as a consumer under the law.

9. Finally

These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you have a complaint, email us first. We almost always reach a solution together. If we do not, the dispute may be brought before the competent Dutch court.

We may update these terms, for example if the product changes. We will announce important changes; for an ongoing order, the version in force at the time of ordering continues to apply.
